Sunrise Engagement Session at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C.

If you've been dreaming of an engagement session at the Washington D.C. National Cathedral, let this be your sign. Diocelinne and Nico-Angelo's sunrise session is proof that waking up early is absolutely worth it. Being a wedding photographer in Virginia has taken me to some incredible places but none quite like the Cathedral. There is so much variety between the gardens and architectural design, you could never run out of ideas... in fact we didn't run out of ideas because we spent a whopping two hours here!

Why a Sunrise Session?

You may be wondering why anyone would want to get up at the crack of dawn to get ready and go take portraits. Well, one reason is that sunrise light just hits different. There are areas, especially at the National Cathedral, that look way better in the morning as opposed to the evening just because of the direction of the sun. Another reason is that we had the entire place all to ourselves. We spent a good hour there before anyone even showed up! So, before you write off an early morning session, take a moment to look at some of these portraits in the stunning sunrise light.

Two Locations in One

Like I mentioned before, the National Cathedral itself has stunning architecture and arched hallways that are to die for! However, it also is home to Bishop's Gardens, a lush path of greenery that seems entirely separate from the Cathedral itself. This location makes for a ton of variety and it almost seems like two locations in one.
